It's a boy!

By now everybody knows that Kelsey and I are having a baby boy!

Before we got pregnant, we both said we wanted little boys. I don't know why, but it just seemed fun. I think for me, I just wanted Kelsey to have somebody to play with. He gets so bored during the summer when he's off work and I could just see him hanging out with his son all summer long!

I've been reading the old wives tales, trying to figure out what's swimming around in my belly, and they all pointed to girl. In fact, the day of my ultrasound I took a quiz and it said girl! I had been eating lots of fruits and sweets, gained weight all over, and had terrible morning sickness. A few of my friends who have or are having boys had none of that.

We told the tech we wanted to know -- no hesitation, in fact. She put the wand on my belly and BOOM, there he was! She said, "There's your little squirt!" It was a beautiful sight. This was my first ultrasound and first glimpse at our little baby. I hope I never forget seeing that little outline for the first time. She did an anatomy scan of his head, pointing out the two sections of his brain, and then she asked us again if we wanted to know the sex. Next thing you know, there's his little boy parts! She typed "It's a boy!!" on the sonogram and took a picture. We were honestly floored. After a couple months of thinking it was a girl, he surprised us!

People at work asked if we cried and neither one of us did. I know from my point of view, I was way too overjoyed to cry. He's such a blessing from God.

Here's my little guy at 18 weeks!

Now comes the fun part -- SHOPPING! We checked out Target Friday night and found a monkey Pack-n-Play on clearance, so we bought that. It was hard to resist some of the precious clothes they have these days. All the boy stuff is "Mommy's All-Star" or "Daddy's Basketball Camp". We saw the most precious little outfit with a pair of fleece pants and a hoodie. The hoodie said "All-Star" and then onesie under it said MVB...MOST VALUABLE BABY. I mean that's just to stinkin' cute.

I'm going back in 3 weeks for a second ultrasound to check his growth. His head was a week or so larger than his body, although he equaled out to be 17.9 weeks, which is right on track. I like to think he just has a really big brain.

17 weeks and counting

Here's my first blog about my pregnancy and our first baby! I'm at 17 weeks and will be 18 on Saturday. It's really hard to believe I've gone this far. It seems like yesterday that we found out we were having the baby and now I'm only a couple weeks from the mid-point of my pregnancy! When people say it goes fast -- boy, they aren't kidding.

Not all that long ago, I was carsick all day long -- at least that's what it felt like. It started the Monday after Easter. Most of you have already heard this story, but I want to make sure I don't forget. We fixed a great Easter dinner for ourselves, which included a huge ham. We put it in the fridge and I planned on using it for sandwiches the whole week. As I was getting food ready before work on Monday morning, I opened up the fridge, caught a whif of that formerly delicious ham and almost vomited right then and there. It was truly attrocious. From that point (6 weeks) until about 12, I had trouble eating anything. The whole world smelled like hot garbage and green beans. How is it possible that everything could feel like green beans? So, after about 12 weeks I started feeling better. Since then I've been hungry non-stop. This is one hungry little baby.

Here are my pregnancy highlights for week 17 and a pic (it's a week 16 pic from the cruise, but not much has changed):

Today's Date: June 22
How Far Along: 17 weeks
Total Weight Gain/Loss: I'm guessing about 6 pounds
Maternity Clothes: Some shirts. Maternity pants are too big and my other pants are too small. I have some shorts that fit perfectly; not maternity, but fit right under my belly. I wish I could wear them all the time! Mostly I wear whatever stretchy pants I have and honestly? I leave my pants unbuttoned at work pretty much all day.
Best Moment this week: It's going to be the ultrasound appointment on Thursday!
Gender: Don't know yet, but hopefully will find out on Thursday.
Movement:Nothing substantial, but I'm pretty sure I felt a little bit during the cruise.
Food Craving: Fruit of all kinds, especially strawberries and watermelon and lately I've been craving milk.
What I Miss: Tuna sandwiches!
Sleep: I feel like I'm ALWAYS sleepy every second of the day, so I almost never have a problem falling asleep. The only problems I have had are waking up too hot and lately my hips have been hurting when I lay on my side for too long without rolling over.
What I Am Looking Forward To: Finding out the gender and getting to see our little sweetie on the ultrasound.
Symptoms: Fatigue, constant hunger and I'm running my own little furnace.
