Flutters and kicks

Lately my baby boy has had so much more activity in his little home. I am starting to feel definite periods of awake and asleep. Food definitely triggers his movements. I like to think that he's sitting there sleeping and then gets a little pure energy burst, then decides he wants to dance. "I just want to express my emotions through the medium of DANCE!"

Or he might be Billy Blanks, the TaeBo guy, except only 11 oz.

I look forward to my after dinner movements most of all, when he's the most active. Tonight he was really punching and kicking. A few weeks ago it started out just small flutters, just like I read about online. It was like someone was moving a finger really softly on my tummy, except on the inside. Now I can feel the movements, stronger twitches and thumps and even, if I concentrate hard enough, I can feel him rolling around and twisting. It's really the best feeling and so special.

Kelsey tries to feel him, but his little arms and legs aren't quite strong enough for that (and the layer of fat on my belly that was there before isn't helping!) Kelsey tries to feel him, though! At night, while we're laying in bed, Kelsey will put his hand on my belly and close his eyes and try to feel him move. The problem is, I tend to jump and say, "DID YOU FEEL THAT ONE?" which defeats the purpose. Kelsey loves to hear me talk about him moving. It's the best connection he has right now.

I also love to hear the love in Kelsey's voice when he talks about the baby. We just both love him so much. Maybe someday when he's older (MUCH older) and can appreciate it, I'll print off these blog posts and make them into a book. I hope he always knows how much we have loved him, even when all we had were tiny little flutters.

then I woke up

I've been having really weird dreams.

I dreamt that Kelsey was my boss, but we weren't married, but he was having an affair with me. And he kept trying to kiss me but I kept saying, "NO, I will not kiss you here, your wife will find out!" and we were hanging out in this house that had all these people in it -- like it was some sort of party or something. So we were just chilling in this house, and walked from one room to another and one of my old sorority sisters (who is pregnant) came in. There was this fluffy, big bed in the room I was walking into and she asked if I was going to be using it and I said no. She said, "oh great, I can't get any sleep with the kids in my room." And I looked in the other room and there were 3 little boys just hanging out playing with toys! I asked if they were hers and she said, "nope!" Then I woke up.

I also dreamt that there was a tornado coming and was about to hit my old house in Huntington. I was there with my Mom, Sis and our two old cats, as well as my cats. I could see that there was a really dark cloud in the distance and we were all sure it was a tornado, so I was trying to get all the cats rounded up and into carriers before it hit. One of them was outside, didn't escape but just lived out there, so I went to get it and noticed a small tornado had already hit our backyard and cut a path through the grass and knocked down some trees. It looked almost like someone had a runaway lawn mower or something. So I came inside with the cats and stood in the entryway between the kitchen and the living room because in my mind that was the safest place. I looked in the living room and my Mom and Sis were sitting on the couch right next to the window. I freaked out because that was the most UNsafe place for them to be! Then I woke up.

I also dreamt that I got a new cat, but it had a humongous head and a tiny body. It was just a baby kitten. I didn't know what on earth to do with it and was so concerned that something was wrong with it. Then suddenly, it was a bigger cat and was perfectly fine. So I said to Kelsey, "Look! The cat grew and now nothing is wrong with it!" Then I woke up.

Monkey man bedding

Last week, Kelsey and I went to Orlando to check out their consignment stores and register at Babies R Us. We ended up finding a consignment store that had a ton of clothes, all clearance, and bought the baby boy a whole bunch of cute outfits for $18 bucks! WE also got his crib at the store. It was brand new, in the box, never been opened, and sold for $265 new at Toys R Us. We ended up buying it for $175! It's absolutely gorgeous and just what we were looking for.

We stopped by another store that had all name brand stuff, and we checked out the bedding. We were looking for something "monkey" for his room, and had seen one kind online with blue, green, yellow and brown, but the blue looked a little more purple. Once we saw it in the store, it was the perfect shade of blue! So we decided that was the pattern and we'd look for it elsewhere or put it on the registry (or buy it online). It turns out this particular type is either really popular or being discontinued because it's almost impossible to find in the store and online. We ended up just ordering it from the company because we knew they had it in stock. We also registered for a bunch of extras, like the valance, lamps, wall decals, etc. We're ready to get his room ready!!

I came home yesterday and Kelsey hadn't said a word about the bedding getting to the house. I asked why we didn't get it and said he needed to call and complain. A few minutes later he called me into the hallway and opened the door to the nursery and there it was! He got it and put it all together. Now if I could only get him to make OUR bed that well.

Here it is! All ready for a sweet little baby.

Week 20 highlights & more!

It's been awhile since I updated this blog, but Sissy is practically begging! So here are my week 20 (almost 21 at this point) highlights:

Today's Date: July 16
How Far Along: 20 weeks, 6 days
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Officially, 10 pounds. I'm a little afraid of gaining too much weight because eating is always an "issue" for me. It's easy to put on pounds when you're a short person anyway. So I hope at my next appt. there aren't extra numbers on that weight gain.
Maternity Clothes: I bought a few more maternity shirts this week from Old Navy because I didn't have many "casual" clothes for the weekends. I LOVE them! They are the perfect length and really light and cool. I'm wearing mostly maternity pants, too, but I can still wear some pants unbuttoned. I'm thinking about finding a way to turn some old black capris that I haven't been able to button in a LONG time into maternity pants.
Best Moment this week:  Our second ultrasound yesterday when we saw our little man moving around, kicking, punching and yawning. We also got to see his little hands open and close. Every movement we see is like a little miracle!
Gender: It's a boy! We like the name Luke (I'll write about why in another blog) and keep going back to that one.
Movement: Mostly just flutters still, but more consistent. I also have been feeling lots of little twitches, which I believe are little hiccups.
Food Craving: I haven't been craving much this week, except tuna salad on a bagel (which of course I can't have). I have also had a craving the past couple of days for blueberry muffins.
What I Miss: Tuna, steak that isn't burnt to a crisp, hot dogs regularly!
Sleep: Last week was miserable because I kept going to bed late, so I've been trying to get to bed earlier and it's made a huge difference. Besides being woken up by BIZARRE dreams, I'm sleeping really well.
What I Am Looking Forward To: More of his movements!
Symptoms:  I've been feeling really good. The only symptoms are a little bit of a backache if I sit for too long and I get winded easily. Also, there are times when my blood feels like it's pumping really hard. Maybe because there is 40% more blood in my body or something crazy like that!

Here's my pic for this week in a new top!

Week 18 Pregnancy Highlights

Today's Date: July 2
How Far Along: 18 weeks, 6 days
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Officially, 10 pounds. I'm trying to eat a little better as far as snacks are concerned, because I'm always hungry!
Maternity Clothes: I still have a handful of regular shirts I'm wearing, but I'm almost all in maternity pants (for work). I have three pairs of shorts that aren't maternity, but are stretchy, low and so comfy! I'm going to get some mileage out of them. I bought them bigger knowing it was going to wear them for awhile.
Best Moment this week: Feeling some little flutters after lunch. It was during a super boring meeting so it was nice to be able to feel my little guy moving around, even when I was almost bored to tears. At least one of us is having fun!
Gender: It's a boy! No names yet.
Movement: Still tiny flutters but I'm able to recognize them more and more. He likes to move around after I eat.
Food Craving: Fruit -- blueberries lately, and cheese. At night I've been hooked on Frosted Mini Wheats!
What I Miss: Tuna, sushi
Sleep: I slept really well this week because I was just exhausted every night.
What I Am Looking Forward To: Looking for more baby stuff and registering. We browsed for boy stuff last week and there are SO many cute boy clothes!
Symptoms:  Constant hunger...like it absolutely never ends.

Here is the picture from this week!
